Showtime VP Says McGregor is Allowed One “MMA Style” Move in Mayweather Fight
It’s no secret now that Conor McGregor, who
has zero pro boxing fights, will be taking on Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a
cross-over “super fight” this summer. Floyd, who has 49 pro boxing
fights (49-0) and over a hundred amateur fights, is clearly the favorite
to win, given Conor’s lack of experience in the ring and well, being
Floyd Mayweather Jr.
But there is one technique that is familiar to
Conor and other MMA guys that Floyd has probably never seen, and Conor
will be allowed to throw. The “Superman Punch”.
During an interview with Fight Hype, Executive
vice president of Showtime Sports Stephen Espinoza discussed the
possibility and legality of McGregor throwing a superman punch at Floyd
during their upcoming match:
“That’s well within the rules. A back fist probably wouldn’t
be, but there is a lot of different things that can be thrown to throw
off timing. I can guarantee Floyd has never seen someone coming and
throwing a Superman punch.”
