FORMULATION: INJECTIONS
STATUS: Pharma grade
DESCRIPTION: Walcobal 1500/2500 contains Methylcobalamin (bioactive form of Vitamin B12). Methylcobalamin is important for the brain and nerves, and for the production of red blood cells. It is indicated in Vitamin B12 deficiency, Pernicious anaemia, diabetic neuropathy, peripheral neuropathy, cardiovascular disorders, hyperhomocysteinemia, Alzheimer disease and degenerative disorders.
SIDE EFFECTS: Common side effects are Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite and headache.

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Diarrhea

Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated. Try to avoid taking any medicine on your own to manage diarrhea. Consult your doctor and inform them if the symptom gets worse.

Headache

If WALCOBAL 1500MCG INJECTION causes headache, then take rest and drink plenty of fluids. Try to avoid drinking alcohol. Ask your doctor to recommend a painkiller. Headaches should usually go away after the first week of receiving WALCOBAL 1500MCG INJECTION. If it lasts more than a week or is severe, inform your doctor.

Nausea And Vomiting

Receive WALCOBAL 1500MCG INJECTION with or just after a meal. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil-rich or spicy foods, sugary snacks, and drinks. Avoid drinking too much liquid along with your meals, drink slowly in between meals. Talk with your doctor if the condition worsens.

 

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY

Contraindicated

WALCOBAL 1500MCG INJECTION is not recommended for use in pregnant women. Consult your doctor before receiving WALCOBAL 1500MCG INJECTION.

BREASTFEEDING

Contraindicated

WALCOBAL 1500MCG INJECTION is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before receiving WALCOBAL 1500MCG INJECTION.

KIDNEY

Use with Caution

WALCOBAL 1500MCG INJECTION should be received with caution in patients with kidney problems. Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine.

LIVER

Use with Caution

WALCOBAL 1500MCG INJECTION should be received with caution in patients with liver problems. Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine.

ALLERGY

Contraindicated

Do not receive WALCOBAL 1500MCG INJECTION if you are allergic to methylcobalamin, other B12-containing medicines, and/or any other ingredients of this medicine.

USE IN PEDIATRICS

Use with Caution

WALCOBAL 1500MCG INJECTION should be used with caution in children and adolescents (aged 6 months to 18 years). Consult your doctor before receiving WALCOBAL 1500MCG INJECTION.

USE IN GERIATRICS

Use with Caution

WALCOBAL 1500MCG INJECTION should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged above 65 years). Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine.

OTHERS

Before receiving WALCOBAL 1500MCG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you:

  • Have Leber's disease (an inherited form of vision loss)
  • Have signs of a low potassium level in the blood, such as muscle twitches or cramps, low blood pressure, faintness, and/or excessive urination or thirst
  • Are suffering from optic nerve disease (swelling and nerve damage to the eyes).
 
 

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug-drug interactions:

Before receiving WALCOBAL 1500MCG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you are receiving any of the following medicine:

  • Neomycin (used to manage bacterial skin infections)
  • Amino salicylic acid (used to manage tuberculosis)
  • Histamine H2-antagonists (used to manage recurrence of duodenal ulcers) Ex. ranitidine, famotidine 
  • Colchicine (used in the management of gout)
  • Oral contraceptives (used to manage pregnancy) Ex. ethinyl estradiol and norethindrone
  • Chloramphenicol (used to manage bacterial infections)
  • Cimetidine (used to manage ulcers of the stomach and intestines)
